Common fabrics in summer include cotton, linen, silk, etc. Comparing mesh fabrics with these fabrics, they have their own advantages and disadvantages in terms of breathability, moisture absorption, comfort, durability, etc.:
Breathability
- Mesh fabric: It has a unique three-dimensional mesh structure and is known as a breathable mesh. Compared with other flat fabrics, it has stronger breathability, air can flow freely, and the surface can be kept comfortable and dry through air circulation. It has good breathability and moderate adjustment ability.
- Cotton: Natural cotton fibers have many pores, so they also have certain breathability, allowing the skin to breathe. However, if the pure cotton fabric is woven more tightly or the clothes are thicker, the breathability will be affected to a certain extent, and it is not as good as mesh fabric.
- Linen: Linen fabrics have excellent breathability. Its fiber structure is relatively loose, and air can circulate quickly in the fabric, which has a good heat dissipation effect. Compared with mesh fabrics, the breathability is comparable, and even performs better on some coarse linen fabrics, but the delicate feeling of wearing may be slightly inferior to mesh fabrics.
- Silk: Silk fabrics also have good breathability, and their fibers are slender and smooth, which is conducive to air circulation. However, silk fabrics are relatively light, thin and tight, and their overall breathability is not as good as mesh fabrics with a large number of mesh holes that provide direct air exchange.
Hygroscopicity
- Mesh fabrics: Most mesh fabrics use chemical fibers as raw materials, which give the fabrics a certain degree of hygroscopicity, but mesh fabrics with different material components have different hygroscopicity. If the mesh fabric is blended with cotton and other hygroscopic fibers, the hygroscopicity will be enhanced. If it is mainly chemical fibers, the hygroscopicity is relatively limited.
- Cotton: It has strong hygroscopicity and can absorb sweat discharged from the human body and quickly dissipate it, keeping the skin dry. Wearing pure cotton clothes in summer can effectively reduce the feeling of stuffiness and stickiness, which is better than the hygroscopicity of many mesh fabrics.
- Linen: It also has excellent hygroscopicity. It can absorb water equivalent to 20% of its own weight and evaporate quickly. In a humid environment, linen fabrics can quickly absorb and discharge moisture, keeping the body dry. Similar to cotton, its hygroscopicity is usually better than ordinary mesh fabrics.
- Silk: Silk has good hygroscopicity and can absorb moisture in the air and sweat discharged by the human body. However, when the amount of sweat absorbed is large, its hygroscopicity and evaporation speed may not be as good as cotton and linen, but it is worse than some chemical fiber mesh fabrics.
Comfort
- Mesh fabric: It has a unique elastic function. The mesh structure is shaped at high temperature during the production process. When subjected to external force, it can extend in the direction of the force. When the tension is reduced and removed, the mesh can return to its original shape. It can maintain a certain elongation in the horizontal and vertical directions without loosening and deformation, and it is more comfortable to wear and move. In addition, it is easy to wash and dry, and can adapt to a variety of cleaning methods such as hand washing, machine washing, dry cleaning, etc. It is easy to clean, and the three-layer breathable structure is ventilated and easy to dry.
- Cotton: It feels soft and has little irritation to the skin. Especially for people with sensitive skin, pure cotton fabrics are very friendly. However, cotton fabrics are prone to wrinkling and may be deformed after washing, and are not as smooth as mesh fabrics.
- Linen: Linen fabrics feel relatively rough and may feel itchy when worn close to the skin. They may not be as comfortable as mesh fabrics and pure cotton fabrics. However, specially treated linen fabrics can improve this situation.
- Silk: Silk fabrics are soft and smooth, very comfortable to wear close to the skin, and give people a luxurious touch. However, silk is more delicate, and requires higher washing and maintenance, and is not as easy to take care of as mesh fabrics.
Durability
- Mesh fabric: Made of tens of thousands of polymer synthetic fiber yarns knitted by knitting, it is not only strong, can withstand high-intensity tension and tearing, but also smooth and comfortable. However, some mesh fabrics have poor bursting strength, especially after strong boiling treatment, the fibers are damaged, and the bursting strength is even worse.
- Cotton: It has a certain durability under normal use, but if it is washed and rubbed frequently, it is prone to wear and thinning. Compared with some high-quality mesh fabrics, the durability may be slightly weaker.
- Linen: Linen fibers are strong and durable, and can withstand the test of daily wear and washing. Its durability is comparable to that of mesh fabrics, and even better than that of some heavy linen fabrics.
- Silk: Silk is relatively delicate and easily scratched by sharp objects. It also requires special care when washing and drying, otherwise it is easily damaged. Its durability is not as good as that of mesh fabrics.
Price
- Mesh fabric: The price is affordable and cost-effective. The price of 1 meter is usually between 20 and 30 yuan, and the wholesale price is more favorable. For example, polyester mesh fabrics have a variety of specifications, such as 100% polyester, 170cm width, 150g/m weight, suitable for outdoor sportswear, and sold at 25 yuan per meter.
- Cotton: The price range is wide, and the price of ordinary pure cotton fabrics is relatively moderate, but the price of some high-quality long-staple cotton will be higher. In general, there is a certain overlap with the price of mesh fabrics.
- Linen: The price of ordinary linen fabrics is close to that of pure cotton, but the price of some high-quality linen or linen fabrics with special processing will be higher, and may be more expensive than mesh fabrics.
- Silk: Silk fabrics are usually more expensive, especially high-quality silk such as mulberry silk, which is a relatively high-end fabric and is significantly more expensive than mesh fabrics.
