When knitted fabrics are compared with other fabrics, they can be mainly explained from the following aspects:
I. Characteristics of knitted fabrics
1. Structural characteristics:
- Knitted fabrics are fabrics formed by bending yarns into loops with knitting needles and interlacing them. This structure gives knitted fabrics a large room for expansion and contraction, so they have better elasticity.
- The gaps between the coils allow air to circulate more smoothly, so knitted fabrics have good breathability.
2. Hand feel and comfort:
- Knitted fabrics are soft to the touch, comfortable to wear, close to the body and breathable, and can reflect the beauty of human body lines.
- Due to the loose fiber structure, knitted fabrics usually feel softer and more comfortable than some other fabrics (such as woven fabrics).
3. Hygroscopicity and warmth:
- Knitted fabrics have good hygroscopicity and can absorb moisture in the air, making the wearer feel comfortable.
- At the same time, knitted fabrics also have a certain degree of warmth retention, which is suitable for wearing in autumn and winter.
2. Comparison between knitted fabrics and other fabrics
1. Comparison with pure cotton fabrics:
- Elasticity: knitted cotton usually has better elasticity than pure cotton due to the knitting technology.
- Hand feel: knitted cotton fabric is relatively soft and feels good to the touch, while pure cotton fabric is also soft, but it is slightly inferior to knitted cotton in elasticity.
- Durability: pure cotton fabric has a tight fiber structure and is not easy to pilling, but it is relatively easy to deform; while knitted cotton fabric is more prone to pilling, but knitted cotton after special treatment has better wear resistance and higher durability.
2. Comparison with woven fabrics:
- Elasticity: knitted fabrics have good elasticity because the yarn is bent into loops and interlaced with each other, and the loops have greater room for expansion and contraction up and down and left and right; while woven fabrics are usually not as elastic as knitted fabrics.
- Breathability: knitted fabrics have good breathability because the gaps between the loops allow air to circulate more smoothly; although woven fabrics have a stable structure, their breathability is relatively poor.
3. Comparison with other special fabrics (such as mercerized cotton knitted fabrics):
- Mercerized cotton knitted fabrics are specially treated to be thin, soft, comfortable to wear, good in moisture absorption and breathability, and also have the luster of silk fabrics.
- However, mercerized cotton knitted fabrics also have disadvantages such as easy wrinkling, acid fear, and easy to be stained with fine dust, so special attention should be paid to maintenance.
III. Summary
Knitted fabrics have been widely used in clothing, household goods and other fields due to their unique structural characteristics, good feel and comfort, moisture absorption and warmth retention. Compared with other fabrics, knitted fabrics have significant advantages in elasticity and breathability, but they also have some disadvantages, such as easy pilling and easy deformation. Therefore, when choosing knitted fabrics, it is necessary to weigh and choose according to specific needs and scenarios.
